1 large egg (room temperature)
3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
¼ cup granulated sugar
2 ¼ tsp instant yeast (1 packet)
1 tsp salt
¾ cup warm milk (about 110°F / warm to the touch)
¼ cup unsalted butter, melted and cooled
1 large egg (room temperature)
Blueberry Cinnamon Filling
-
1 cup fresh or frozen blueberries
-
⅓ cup brown sugar
-
2 tsp ground cinnamon
-
1 tbsp cornstarch
-
2 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
1 cup fresh or frozen blueberries
⅓ cup brown sugar
2 tsp ground cinnamon
1 tbsp cornstarch
2 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
Cream Cheese Glaze
-
4 oz cream cheese, softened
-
2 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
-
¾ cup powdered sugar
-
1 tsp vanilla extract
-
1–2 tbsp milk (to thin)
4 oz cream cheese, softened
2 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
¾ cup powdered sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract
1–2 tbsp milk (to thin)
Step-by-Step Directions
1. Make the Dough
In a large mixing bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until slightly foamy. Add melted butter, egg, and salt. Slowly mix in the flour until a soft dough forms.
Knead the dough on a floured surface for 8–10 minutes, or until smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for about 1 to 1½ hours, or until doubled in size.
2. Prepare the Blueberry Filling
In a small bowl, mix brown sugar, cinnamon, and cornstarch. Gently toss blueberries in this mixture until evenly coated. Set aside.
3. Roll and Fill
Once the dough has risen, roll it out on a floured surface into a rectangle (about 14 x 9 inches). Spread softened butter evenly over the dough. Sprinkle the blueberry mixture across the surface, pressing gently so the berries stay in place.
Starting from the long edge, tightly roll the dough into a log. Slice into 9–12 even rolls using a sharp knife or unflavored dental floss.
4. Second Rise
Place rolls into a greased baking dish, leaving a little space between each one. Cover and let rise for another 30–45 minutes until puffy.
5. Bake
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake rolls for 25–30 minutes, or until lightly golden and cooked through.
6. Make the Glaze
While rolls cool slightly, beat cream cheese and butter until smooth. Add powdered sugar, vanilla, and milk until creamy and pourable.
Spread glaze generously over warm rolls and serve immediately.
